More Than a Job. A Place to Grow.

While typical day centers in the Yukon and Greater OKC area provide wonderful, much-needed services, the OATECA Transition Center fills a very specific and often overlooked gap. Most local options fall into one of two categories: traditional Adult Day Health Care (focused on safety, medical monitoring, and respite) or High-Functioning Day Programs (which require individuals to already be fully independent in daily self-care). OATECA bridges this divide by focusing explicitly on active growth pathways for adults with significant disabilities. Here is how it directly compares to other options in the area:

Why OTC?

  •  Traditional centers typically operate primarily under an adult day care or senior care model. They excel at providing a safe environment, medical monitoring, meals, and social recreational activities (like arts, crafts, and games) to prevent isolation.
    Rather than just providing daytime supervision, OATECA uses a result-oriented transition process. It is carefully structured as an individualized, future oriented continuous support plan, or M.A.P. (Member Support Plan).

  • Traditional day programs do not offer vocational training or job coaching. On the other end of the spectrum, specialized vocational programs offer incredible job training but require participants to be entirely independent in all activities of daily living, and free of complex behavioral or physical needs. Many community day programs lack the staffing ratios, specialized training, or resources to accommodate adults with severe cognitive or physical limitations once they age out of high school. The vision for OATECA was specifically born out of a passion to extend support for individuals leaving functional/severe disability classrooms. The team’s years of combined experience and expertise is rooted deeply in specialized education, assistive technology, advocacy and resources.

  •  If a family is looking purely for a safe place for a loved one to pass the day with great care, traditional area centers are fantastic. But if the goal is to actively push the boundaries of what an adult with significant disabilities can achieve—with the ultimate goal of community integration, measurable life skills, and supported employment—OATECA stands entirely in a class of its own!
